Flappers Story
In the winter of 2006 a tiny smooth coated sandy coloured puppy was rescued, victim of a road accident, which is the cause of so many admissions to our hospital. The compound fracture was inoperable so his foreleg was amputated. He was healing well, but an outbreak of distemper struck down all the puppies around him. Miraculously he survived. This has left him with a very slight wobbliness, which just adds to his charm! He gads about on his three legs, gazing up with the soft skin between his ears giving him a puzzled frown.
Last summer he appeared to be fully grown, a bit like a giant chihuahua, but he’s continued to grow and fill out. We have to remind him about keeping his waistline trim, so as not to put too much strain on his single front leg. In the cool of the day he play fights with another younger 3 legged friend, Squirrel Nutkin. He’s a bit of a dandy and would look very becoming in a bow tie, a sort of Noel Coward of the dog world and he’s very adept at controlling his chew sticks with one paw. His ears are huge and as he lolopps along, they flap comically along with his tongue, hence his name.
