Caitriona’s Epic Ride for TOLFA

Friday, August 15th, 2008

It has been almost a year to the day that Caitriona O’Leary announced she was planning a Ride for the Tree of Life for Animals. It is now only a few weeks before Caitriona, a friend and supporter of TOLFA, will set off to begin her epic adventure to raise awareness and money for TOLFA’s work.

She will do this by riding the old nomadic trail from Udaipur to Pushkar ka Mela: the biggest camel fair in the world. This is no easy feat. The ride will see Caitriona and her Marwari horse Chandra cover over 400kms of desert roads and hard dusty tracks.

Caitriona’s reason for even contemplating this feat?;

‘I have known Rachel Wright, the founder, for a number of years and having seen various animal charities throughout Asia I think that hers is one of the best. By raising money for the Tree of Life for Animals, I hope to make it possible for them to provide mobile education camps in nearby villages, providing training in basic animal care for farmers’.

Catriona is currently appealing for donations on www.justgiving.com/caitrionaoleary so please sponsor her and and help make it the success it deserves to be.

Our Latest Volunteer - Gill

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Gill came to volunteer at our shelter and during her 4 weeks with us she enjoyed a sojourn to Jaipur, attended Serena’s leaving party where they were entertained by a local musician, experienced the local cuisine, learned the art of scooter riding and of course had the obligatory hennaed hand treatment.

Our New Cattle Hoist

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Inspired by her volunteer experience with us last November, Pauhla was determined to raise enough money for us to buy a cattle hoist which we needed to lift our more cumbersome patients.

Pauhla was so driven on her return to the UK she managed to fulfill her mission and raise the whole £500 needed to allow us to buy one. The hoist itself was ordered in the UK and transported over in Rachel’s backpack whilst the A-frame needed to support it will be made in India.

Sponsor An Animal - Flapper

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Our Sponsor an Animal scheme is proving to be extremely popular. Not only is it a great way to donate and help out our adorable resident animals, it also makes a great gift for somebody.

Because of its success we have another of our irresistible dogs waiting for your sponsorship. Flapper is a real charmer and is often found gnawing away at one of his doggie treats.

Sponsor an Animal - Wonkey Donkey

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Wonkey Donkey, as he is affectionately known, is a bit of a miracle. He was found by a couple Helen and Peter who had been volunteering at the hospital a few days previously. He was lying on his side in the road and had been for several days after being hit by a vehicle.

Wonkey Donkey now has his own page so you can read his full story. Wonkey Donkey’s Story

TOLFA is Good Cause of the Month

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

One of our previous volunteers, Pauhla Whittaker has nominated us as ‘Good Cause of the Month’ on a site called Nature’s Nexus.

This is a new online community and resource relating to everything including natural perfumery, herbs, essential oils and aromatherapy, sustainable and green living, natural beauty products, animals and complimentary therapies.

This accolade means that every ecard sent through their site within the month of May generates a donation for TOLFA.

Feast Fit For A Dog

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

For a while now, we had wanted to overhaul our feeding regime for the dogs that were hospitalised at the shelter. It just seemed that what we were feeding them on, on a twice daily basis, just wasn’t hitting the mark and we wanted to make more of an effort to get things spot on.

Because the diet had to be made from scratch from local resources, it was important that all the nutrients were given at the right proportion and balance. For this I turned to veterinary colleague Nick Thompson, a vet who is committed to providing a personal, comprehensive, professional holistic referral service to the public and veterinary colleagues.

Treating both small animals and equines, his skills cover a wide range of complementary therapies such as homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal and nutritional medicine. After attending many of his lectures in the past, and from reputation, I knew that he would be just the person to set us on the right track as regards getting exactly the correct nutrients into the dogs.

Lead and Collar Appeal

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Clara recently appealed for some much needed collars and leads so she could walk the puppies and dogs around more. Thanks to the generosity of her friends and family and a few UK supporters, we now have some spanking new collars and leads.

Here is Jack, Clara’s regular walking companion, proudly showing off his new attire.
