BVNA Congress 2007

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Every October The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) holds an annual congress which is attended by hundreds of Veterinary Nurses, as well as many veterinary colleges, charities and companies promoting their products and services. This year BVNA descended on Kettering and I followed them up there.

We were very lucky that Royal Canin agreed to sponsor the cost of the stand so that we were able to attend and promote the charity, particularly our Project Raja Volunteers Scheme, the Royal Canin food promotion and our Animal Money Tree poster.

Happy 2nd Birthday TOLFA

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Happy Birthday TOLFA

Yes, TOLFA turns 2 years old today.

It is so hard to believe that 2 years has gone since Rachel first opened up the doors to this incredible animal shelter. It just so happens to be World Animal Day as well.

It is no coincidence that TOLFA’s birthday falls on the 4th October, after all it is St Francis of Assisi’s feast day, so it only seemed appropriate to use it as the starting point. We hope that TOLFA’s growth from a small seed, will become a large, splendid and fruitful tree that blossoms and shelters all the living creatures under its branches.

It is wonderful to see Rachels dream come to fruition, and everybody’s hard work and support has paid off and is really making a big difference.

I was lucky enough to be in India at Year 0 and enjoyed the birthday celebrations last year when TOLFA turned 1. I am sorry i can’t be there with you all today, but send you lots of birthday wishes.

World Animal Day

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Every year on October 4th, a wide range of animal welfare organizations and animal lovers worldwide celebrate World Animal Day.

It originated in Florence, Italy in 1931 at an ecologists convention. The idea was to highlight the plight of many species of animals who were classed as being endangered.

The 4th October was chosen as it coincides with the feast day of the patron saint of animals, St Francis of Assisi.

It is a worldwide celebration for anyone who cares passionately about animals and aims to encourage anyone, whatever age, nationality or creed to highlight the importance of respecting our fellow creatures.

There are events going on all over the world. Visit the World Animal Day website to find out more about this special day - a celebration of animals!
