Update from India

Our work at the hospital continues at its usual non-stop pace. There have been a few weather catastrophes recently though - as the heat is really starting now we have had some freak storms, one of them unfortunately smashed the whole of the roof of our small cattle shade. Work needs to start as soon as possible to repair this to protect the cattle from the increasing heat and at the same time we are we digging the foundations for the boundary wall to create a secure perimeter. We are just preparing to start our campaign of Animal Birth Control and Rabies vaccination for Pushkar and estimate that the whole of the city can be finished in 6 months before the next Pushkar Mela starts. We are also just launching a small donkey project using the skills that 2 of our animal assistants learnt on their donkey farrier course run by the Donkey Sanctury in Ahmedabad. Once a month, they will hold a free hoof trimming service together with advice on saddle care, nutrition, teeth etc. If the monthly sessions are a success, we will increase this to a weekly session.Having electricity on site has made such a difference to us and what we can achieve - I can’t believe we managed for so long without it!Rachel Wright
